Manfred Oeming, a professor of theology of the Old Testament at Heidelberg University, provides a brief history of philosophical hermeneutics, offering a clear structure to emphasize the existence of different approaches to interpreting a text and explaining the necessity of such diversity. In this article, which essentially serves as the first chapter of the book "An Introduction to Contemporary Biblical Hermeneutics," Oeming aims to introduce perspectives on the Bible and sacred texts by taking a brief look at interpretative traditions from Plato to the contemporary period.

این مقدمه کلاسیک در زمینه هرمنوتیک که برای اولین بار به زبان فارسی منتشر می‌شود، در برگیرنده‌ی طیف وسیعی از رویکردهای تفسیر کتاب مقدس است. مانفرد اومینگ که خود استاد الهیات عهد عتیق در دانشگاه هایدلبرگ است با ارائه تاریخچه مختصری از هرمنوتیک فلسفی، ساختاری روشن برای تأکید بر اینکه چه رویکردهای متفاوتی برای تفسیر یک متن وجود دارد و لزوم وجود آن را تشریح می‌کند. وی در این مقاله، که درواقع فصل اول از کتابِ درآمدی بر هرمنوتیک معاصر بایبلی است، درصدد است تا با نگاهی گذرا به سنت‌های تفسیری از افلاطون تا دورهٔ معاصر، رویکردهای ناظر به بایبل و متون مقدس را معرفی کند.
