انگليسي.Report year irregular, 1846-84, ends June 30, 1885-1918. Published also in U.S. senate and House Miscellaneous documents; these copies vary slightly in preliminary matter, letter of transmittal, etc., in reports for the same year.
1846 -53 , reports only ; 1854 -1918, reports and papers..
Vols.1 and 2 have no t.p.: title begins " report".
There are slight variations in the subtitles of the earlier volumes reports for 1848-55 are numbered 3d -10 th; other reports are unnumbered.
The first report was submitted to Congress in 1847. Annual reports were printed in pamphlet from up to 1853, but in the volume for that year the essential portion of the Contents of the preceding seven reports was prinred and this is now considered as the first of a set Smithsonian reports. of Annual report 1886.pt.1, p.487..
Fourth report includes " Appendix... report on the public libraries of the United States of America, January 1, 1850. By Charles C. Jewett".
Beginning with, 1884, the reports are published in two annual vol. umes, one being the report of the Smithsonian institution, the other the report of the U.S. National museum. for the latter see U.S. National museum Annual report.
